After-School All-Stars Puget Sound joins over 1,600 Greater Seattle Nonprofits in the Third Largest Giving Day in the Nation

Kent, WA – After-School All-Stars (ASAS) Puget Sound, the new Pacific Northwest chapter of the nation’s largest after-school provider, is participating in GiveBIG Seattle on Wednesday, May 10. Hosted by the Seattle Foundation, GiveBIG is a one-day online giving event to raise funds for nonprofit organizations serving Greater Seattle. ASAS Puget Sound is one of over 1,600 organizations participating in what has become the third largest day of giving in the country. This year’s GiveBIG theme, “Now More than Ever,” sends a powerful message and urgent appeal for investment in community nonprofits of all shapes and sizes.

ASAS Puget Sound opened its doors to students in South King County in Fall 2016 and has plans to expand its services this year. Their holistic, culturally-responsive programming model was designed to help close the opportunity gap for disadvantaged youth. With a strategic focus on the middle school age group, ASAS Puget Sound’s after-school program structure combines academics, enrichment opportunities, and health & fitness activities to best equip students for success. For example, their DJ Music Production program incorporates STEM into experiential learning as students learn the technology behind deconstructing and blending music. And, through their hands-on cooking and nutrition programs, students are motivated to make better choices at the dinner table and in the grocery store.

ASAS Puget Sound also prepares students for future economic mobility and self-sufficiency through programs that foster career exploration, financial literacy and the fundamentals of business. Their CEO: Boss Life program gives students the opportunity to meet real corporate executives in the community and exposes them to innovative career possibilities early on. In addition, ASAS Puget Sound incorporates service-learning into their programs to empower youth to apply what they learn in the classroom to solve real-world issues in their community.

ASAS Puget Sound will be accepting donations until 11:59PM Wednesday night. Visit their GiveBIG page to donate:
